Dominik Mysterio Seizes Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania 41
LAS VEGAS: At WrestleMania 41, Dominik Mysterio lived up to his “Dirty” moniker, creating a memorable moment on Night 2.
In a dynamic fatal four-way showdown held at Allegiant Stadium in Nevada, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio turned on Finn Balor, his Judgment Day associate, and emerged as the new WWE Intercontinental Champion.
The match also showcased the talents of defending champion Bron Breakker and Lucha Libre sensation Penta.
Initially, Mysterio and Balor displayed teamwork, but their partnership dissolved midway. Mysterio’s attempt at a 619 on Balor signaled his impending betrayal.
Tensions had been escalating between them for several months, and Mysterio seized the opportunity with a championship at stake.
The match concluded in a flurry of action. After Balor executed a Coup de Grâce on Breakker and attempted a pin, Mysterio descended from the top rope with a frog splash, landing on both competitors. He then pinned Balor, securing his first singles title on WWE’s primary roster.
There were several unforgettable moments during the contest. At one juncture, Penta appeared close to victory, but Carlito, another Judgment Day member, intervened and disrupted the pin.
Carlito then tried to slam Penta through the announcer’s table, but Breakker intercepted with a stunning mid-air spear, leaping from one table to the other.
Back in action, Breakker delivered a powerful spear to Penta before receiving a 619 from Mysterio. As Mysterio ascended for another frog splash, Balor halted him and delivered a Coup de Grâce to Breakker.
Mysterio then capitalized, snatching the victory and the championship.
The crowd erupted as Mysterio celebrated, solidifying his position as a fan favorite despite his questionable tactics.
This win signifies Dominik Mysterio’s inaugural singles championship on WWE’s main roster. Previously, he co-held the SmackDown Tag Team Championship with his father, Rey, and the NXT North American Championship.
Bron Breakker’s second Intercontinental Championship reign ended, having begun in October when he reclaimed the title from Jey Uso.
