Kershaw Achieves Milestone as Dodgers Secure Comeback Win
LOS ANGELES: Clayton Kershaw achieved his 3,000th career strikeout, and Freddie Freeman propelled the Los Angeles Dodgers to a thrilling 5–4 victory against the Chicago White Sox at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday. Freeman’s walk-off single in the ninth inning drove in Shohei Ohtani to seal the win.
Ohtani and Mookie Betts also delivered RBI hits during the ninth-inning surge. Ohtani, who had an earlier RBI, scored the decisive run. Will Klein secured his first Major League win for the Dodgers.
Kershaw’s milestone strikeout occurred in the sixth inning, fanning Vinny Capra with a slider. It marked his third strikeout of the game and came on his 100th pitch of the season.
Over six innings, Kershaw allowed four runs on nine hits, becoming the fourth left-handed pitcher in MLB history to reach the 3,000-strikeout mark.
The Dodgers, trailing 4–2 and scoreless since the second inning, commenced their ninth-inning comeback with a single from Michael Conforto, followed by walks to Tommy Edman and Hyesong Kim off Grant Taylor.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have now triumphed in 14 of their last 17 games, clinching their seventh consecutive series victory.
For the White Sox, Andrew Benintendi initiated the scoring with a two-out RBI single in the first inning. The Dodgers responded swiftly as Will Smith tied the game with his 11th home run off Sean Burke, and Andy Pages put L.A. ahead 2–1 with his 17th homer in the second.
However, Austin Slater’s two-run homer in the third propelled the White Sox back into the lead, and Edgar Quero’s RBI single extended their advantage.
Looking forward, Aaron Civale is slated to start for Chicago in the series finale on Thursday, while Dustin May will pitch for the Dodgers in his debut appearance against the White Sox.
