Djokovic Achieves Milestone: Secures 100th ATP Title

Novak Djokovic demonstrated resilience by rallying from a set deficit to claim his 100th career tour-level title. He defeated Polish player Hubert Hurkacz, the sixth seed, with a score of 5-7, 7-6(2), 7-6(2) at the Tennis Club de Geneve on Saturday.

Djokovic, who recently celebrated his 38th birthday on Thursday, now stands as only the third individual in the Open Era to have attained 100 ATP titles. The other two are Jimmy Connors from the USA and Roger Federer from Switzerland.

Reflecting on this momentous occasion, Djokovic described the victory as hard-earned.

He recognized that Hurkacz came close to winning and presented a significant challenge.

Djokovic acknowledged experiencing difficulties initially but voiced his gratitude for the enthusiastic crowd and vibrant atmosphere.

Match Reflections

“I had to really fight for it. Hubert was probably closer to taking the win throughout the match,” Djokovic commented.

“I had opportunities in the first set to break his serve but faltered, resulting in a double fault at a crucial set point.

“I just focused on staying competitive. I’m not sure how I managed to break his serve… but this is typical at the highest level of competition where outcomes are often decided by a few critical points.

“It was an incredible match, ending 7-6 in the third set with a packed stadium and an electric atmosphere. I am very thankful to secure my 100th title here.”

Djokovic’s previous title was his gold medal win at the Paris Olympics last year.

The Serbian athlete is scheduled to compete against Mackenzie McDonald of the USA in the opening round of the French Open, commencing on Sunday.
