National Security Briefing Held Amidst Pakistan-India Tensions

ISLAMABAD: In light of the increasing strain between Pakistan and India following the attack on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), a briefing on national security was conducted for senior political figures from diverse parties by Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry and Information Minister Ataullah Tarar.

Prominent politicians, including PML-N’s Khurram Dastgir and Abid Sher Ali, Advisor to the PM on Interior Pervez Khattak, and MQM’s Dr. Farooq Sattar, were present at the state TV headquarters for the important security briefing regarding Pakistan-India relations.

JUI-F’s Noor Alam Khan, Senator Abdul Shakoor, BAP Senator Abdul Qadir, along with other political leaders, also participated in the discussion.

Sindh ministers Nasir Hussain Shah, Sharjeel Memon, Saeed Ghani, and PML-N’s Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha were in attendance as well.

The two nuclear-capable countries are experiencing intensified tensions after the incident on April 22, where tourists were targeted in an attack in Pahalgam, a resort town within Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The attack resulted in at least 26 fatalities.

Without presenting substantiating proof, New Delhi implicated Islamabad in the assault, subsequently implementing several restrictive measures intended to weaken diplomatic ties. These measures included the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, the revocation of visas for Pakistani citizens, and the closure of the Wagah-Attari border crossing.

In response, Islamabad has directed the departure of Indian diplomats and military attaches and invalidated visas for Indian citizens, except for Sikh pilgrims. Furthermore, Pakistan has closed its side of the primary border crossing.

Pakistan has refuted any connection to the incident and has expressed a willingness to collaborate in a credible and open inquiry.

This is an ongoing story, further details will be provided as they become available.
