ISPR Clarifies Army’s Position on Political Talks
RAWALPINDI: Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, stated on Friday that the Pakistan Army is not interested in engaging in discussions with political entities. He emphasized that the military should remain separate from political matters.
Speaking to a media outlet, the DG ISPR explained that the armed forces’ interactions are solely with the state, which is established under the Constitution of Pakistan and formed in conjunction with political parties.
“Our communication is with the state of Pakistan, a state that is created under the Constitution with involvement from political parties,” he noted. “The existing government represents the state, and the Pakistan Army functions under its authority.”
He reaffirmed that the Pakistan Armed Forces execute their responsibilities within the bounds of the Constitution, serving the state regardless of the governing political party.
He urged all parties to refrain from drawing the armed forces into political affairs, restating the institution’s non-political stance.
This is a developing story; further details will be added as they become available.
