Devin Booker Inks Massive Extension with Phoenix Suns
LAS VEGAS: Phoenix Suns’ star player, Devin Booker, has reportedly agreed to a significant two-year contract extension with the team, amounting to USD 145 million. This agreement will keep him with the franchise through the 2029-30 season, according to international reports released on Wednesday.
Sources indicate that Booker’s representatives, Jessica Holtz and Melvin Booker, verified the agreement, which establishes a new benchmark for the highest annual salary in NBA history, reaching USD 72.5 million.
Booker and Suns’ owner Mat Ishbia finalized the details of the extension during a meeting held in Las Vegas, which highlighted the team’s dedication to constructing their future around the 28-year-old guard.
The extension elevates the total contract value to USD 316 million over a period of five years.
This new arrangement will surpass Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s existing USD 285 million supermax contract in terms of average yearly value and further cements Booker’s status as a premier player in the league.
Originally drafted as the 13th overall pick by Phoenix in 2015, Booker has dedicated his entire decade-long career to the Suns and is now committed through his third extension with the organization.
A celebrated four-time NBA All-Star, two-time All-NBA selection, and two-time Olympic gold medalist, Booker achieved the title of the Suns’ all-time leading scorer last season.
He recorded an average of 25.6 points, 7.1 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game, thereby extending his streak of averaging over 25 points per game for the seventh consecutive season, a feat only matched by Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Despite Booker’s contributions, the Suns concluded the previous season with a 36-46 record, missing the playoffs.
Since then, the team has implemented significant changes, including trading Kevin Durant to Houston. Moreover, Booker played a crucial role in the appointment of new head coach Jordan Ott, further emphasizing his influential position in Phoenix’s future endeavors.
