Bellew Predicts Dubois Championship Comeback After Usyk Loss
Following Daniel Dubois’s defeat by Oleksandr Usyk, Tony Bellew has projected that Dubois will once again ascend to the world champion status, according to international reports released on Monday.
Dubois’s ambition to seize the heavyweight title was thwarted when Usyk defeated him in the fifth round at Wembley Stadium on July 19. Their match was a bid to secure the undisputed heavyweight champion title for the second time.
From late 2023 up to July, Dubois showcased remarkable form, triumphing over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua, successfully capturing and defending the International Boxing Federation (IBF) heavyweight title.
Despite this strong performance, his recent setback has sparked discussions about his potential to reclaim a position among the world’s elite.
Tony Bellew, a former cruiserweight champion, holds a different view. He is confident that Dubois can reclaim championship glory, asserting that the 26-year-old’s knockout capability keeps him a dangerous contender in the heavyweight division.
In a discussion with Pundit Arena, Bellew voiced his prediction that Dubois would become world champion again following Usyk’s defeat. He also lauded Dubois’s striking power.
“Yes, I anticipate that he will once again be world champion. Considering Daniel Dubois’s inherent power, he will always remain a relevant figure. You can’t dismiss Daniel Dubois due to his capacity to deliver a single, decisive blow that can instantly knock someone out,” he elaborated.
“However, when challenges arise and circumstances become unfavorable, overcoming these obstacles will pose a greater challenge.”
He further noted that Dubois demonstrates strength primarily when he is successfully landing punches.
“When Daniel Dubois is effectively hitting back, he maintains pressure. Nevertheless, the moment he struggles to land blows and endures numerous hits, he invariably faces scrutiny. Thus far, he has not adequately addressed these concerns,” he concluded.
