Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has launched a historic initiative to bring advanced cancer care closer to home by establishing CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery and PET/CT scan services at Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar. This move ends a long struggle for patients who previously had to travel to Karachi or other provinces for this level of diagnostic and treatment care.

Provincial Health Adviser Ehtesham Ali confirmed that project proposals have already been requested and key contracts will soon be finalized. Over 11,700 new cancer cases are reported in KP each year and this facility is seen as a life-saving measure that will significantly improve outcomes through early detection and precision treatment.

The CyberKnife system will allow for non-surgical, highly accurate treatment of complex and inoperable tumors while the PET/CT scan will support accurate staging of cancer, help doctors plan better treatments, and monitor patient responses more precisely. Medical experts believe that combining these technologies will reduce cost burdens on patients, limit travel time, and elevate care standards.

Health officials have pointed out that lack of PET scan services in KP was a major hurdle in cancer care previously. With the new facility diagnostic delays will decrease, psychological stress on patients will reduce and survival chances will improve significantly.

This initiative also opens opportunities for medical research and training in KP. The facility will serve as a hub where clinicians and health professionals can enhance their skills and engage in studies that will benefit future generations.

Introduction of this technology in KP marks a new era of health care investment showing what is possible when government acts on urgent needs. It promises better access, improved cancer care, and renewed hope for patients and families across the province.
