CTD Neutralizes TTP Militants in Swat Operation
In Barikot, Swat, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted an intelligence-driven operation, resulting in the elimination of three operatives linked to the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a CTD representative stated on Wednesday.
The deceased insurgents were identified as Ajmal, also known as Waqas, Mutiullah, also known as Junaid, and Rahimullah. The CTD reported that the operation was initiated based on reliable information concerning the presence of wanted militants in the region.
Ajmal was implicated in nine terrorism instances, facing accusations of both murder and extortion. A reward of Rs2 million had been offered for information leading to his capture.
Mutiullah faced charges in two cases connected to terrorism and was allegedly involved in the premeditated murder of individuals providing assistance to law enforcement entities.
Rahimullah was also a wanted individual in relation to two terrorism cases and was purportedly involved in targeted killings and providing support to militants.
The CTD noted that the three militants participated in attacks that employed improvised explosive devices (IEDs) against law enforcement personnel, along with assaults targeting police installations and infrastructure within the area.
A recent report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a think tank based in Islamabad, indicated a slight reduction in terrorist acts across Pakistan during June.
The institute documented 78 militant incidents nationwide throughout the month, which led to approximately 100 deaths. Among those killed were 53 security personnel, 39 civilians, six militants, and two members of local peace committees.
A total of 189 individuals sustained injuries, including 126 members of the security forces and 63 civilians.
The report highlighted an 8% decrease in the number of attacks, a 12% drop in the number of deaths, and a slight increase in the number of injuries compared to May’s statistics.
Overall, the violence and counter-operations resulted in 175 fatalities in June, comprising 55 security personnel, 77 militants, 41 civilians, and two peace committee members.
