Romania Proposes Black Sea Route for Pakistan’s European Trade
Romania has suggested utilizing the Port of Constanța to grant Pakistan direct access to European markets via the Black Sea and the Danube River. This proposal garnered a positive response from Islamabad, which views it as a practical step toward diversifying its export routes.
The suggestion surfaced during a meeting between Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and the Romanian Ambassador to Pakistan, Dan Stoenescu. Their discussion centered on strengthening collaboration in various sectors, including trade, logistics, defense, energy, and culture, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Commerce.
Both parties explored opportunities to enhance agricultural trade, meat exports, and potential partnerships in pharmaceuticals, surgical instruments, fan manufacturing, and renewable energy solutions.
“Regarding energy, Romania indicated its willingness to support Pakistan’s transition to renewable energy sources, offering technological assistance in solar and wind power generation,” the statement noted.
Romania Keen on Industrial Collaboration
Acknowledging Pakistan’s competitive advantages in several industries, Romania expressed enthusiasm for greater industrial cooperation.
Jam Kamal informed the Romanian envoy about the government’s ongoing efforts to lower tariff and non-tariff barriers.
“These measures provide attractive incentives for Romanian companies to invest in Pakistan through joint ventures,” he stated.
Ambassador Stoenescu recognized the significant expansion of Pakistan’s IT sector and praised the talent and capabilities of Pakistani professionals in the field.
He highlighted the considerable prospects available to Pakistani tech professionals in Romania and conveyed his country’s commitment to facilitating such exchanges.
The commerce minister also emphasized the policy initiatives undertaken by the government to bolster the IT sector. Both sides concurred on the need to deepen cooperation in the technology domain.
During the meeting, matters pertaining to cultural diplomacy and community integration were also discussed, emphasizing the importance of improving connectivity and streamlining visa procedures.
