Rockies Clinch Thrilling Victory Over Orioles with Tovar’s Late Homer
BALTIMORE: In a captivating MLB showdown at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Ezequiel Tovar’s eighth-inning home run propelled the Colorado Rockies to a 6-5 triumph against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night. This win marks Colorado’s third consecutive victory, a feat they’ve only achieved three times this season.
Tovar’s solo shot against Andrew Kittredge (1-2) broke a 5-5 deadlock and highlighted the Rockies’ impressive rally. The Rockies demonstrated resilience after falling behind early, trailing 4-0 after two innings due to four solo home runs off starter Kyle Freeland.
Baltimore hitters Jordan Westburg, Tyler O’Neill, Coby Mayo, and Alex Jackson all homered early in the game. Despite the shaky start, Freeland settled in, pitching six innings and allowing four runs on seven hits, with four strikeouts.
Colorado initiated their comeback in the third inning with a solo home run by Mickey Moniak. Thairo Estrada further closed the gap with a two-run homer in the fourth.
The rally continued in the fifth when Hunter Goodman’s RBI double tied the game, followed by a go-ahead single from rookie Jordan Beck, putting the Rockies ahead 5-4.
Baltimore responded in the seventh when Jackson Holliday, who had three hits, delivered a critical two-out RBI single to tie the score at 5-5.
Tovar’s homer in the eighth gave Colorado the lead again. Reliever Jake Bird (4-1) earned the win, despite surrendering the tying run earlier. Dean Kremer, Baltimore’s starter, allowed five runs in six innings, striking out five.
Earlier on Friday, the Rockies traded veteran third baseman Ryan McMahon to the New York Yankees for two minor league prospects, underscoring the team’s commitment to rebuilding.
The series will continue Saturday with Trevor Rogers pitching for Baltimore against Antonio Senzatela of Colorado.
