Anthony Expected to Join Bucks After Grizzlies Buyout

MEMPHIS: Guard Cole Anthony has reportedly finalized a buyout agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies. Subsequent to clearing waivers, he is anticipated to ink a one-year contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to various international media sources on Saturday.

Entering his sixth NBA season, Anthony, along with his representatives Jeff Schwartz and Javon Phillips from Excel Sports Management, negotiated the buyout.

The 24-year-old guard is expected to enhance the Bucks’ roster, providing additional depth and offensive capabilities from the bench. This move will fortify their backcourt as they strive for a championship.

Anthony’s acquisition by Memphis was part of a significant offseason trade that saw Desmond Bane move to the Orlando Magic.

In exchange, the Grizzlies secured Anthony, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, four future unprotected first-round draft picks, and a first-round pick swap in a high-profile transaction.

However, Anthony’s time with Memphis was brief, as both sides promptly agreed to a buyout that is mutually advantageous.

Renowned for his offensive prowess, Anthony has posted averages of 12.5 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game throughout his five seasons with the Magic.

Since being drafted 15th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, he has distinguished himself as a prominent bench player, consistently ranking among the top five in total points and assists produced off the bench over the last three seasons.

The buyout also grants the Grizzlies increased financial flexibility as they explore the possibility of renegotiating and extending forward Jaren Jackson Jr.’s contract to a five-year maximum deal worth $240 million.
