Guardians Secure Victory Over Marlins

CLEVELAND: At Progressive Field on Thursday, the Cleveland Guardians overcame an initial deficit to triumph over the Miami Marlins with a final score of 9-4. Gabriel Arias contributed two RBIs, Jose Ramirez scored three runs and had three hits, while Tanner Bibee achieved his fifth consecutive victory.

Since concluding a 10-game losing streak on July 7, Cleveland has demonstrated impressive form, amassing a record of 23-9.

Despite early challenges, Bibee secured his fifth straight win, pitching 5 2/3 innings, conceding four runs, and registering five strikeouts along with four walks. Since July 12, the right-hander holds a 5-0 record with a 5.13 ERA across six starts.

After Miami established an initial 3-0 lead in the second inning, Arias initiated Cleveland’s comeback with an RBI groundout and subsequently propelled the Guardians into the lead in the fifth with a sacrifice fly, allowing Ramirez to score.

Ramirez’s seventh-inning run propelled him past Kenny Lofton, securing third place on Cleveland’s all-time runs list with a total of 977.

Edward Cabrera (6-6) suffered the defeat for Miami, conceding five runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. Prior to this game, Cabrera had been performing strongly, boasting a 1.40 ERA in his previous four appearances.

Defensive errors hindered the Marlins, including a crucial two-run mistake by Guardians catcher Austin Hedges in the first inning. Cade Smith secured his sixth save, concluding the ninth inning after Nic Enright loaded the bases.

Cleveland now holds a 9-8 advantage in the all-time series. Miami’s Sandy Alcantara is scheduled to commence Friday in the opener of a three-game series at Boston, while Cleveland’s Joey Cantillo is set to pitch as Cleveland hosts Atlanta.
