Traffic Police Officers Accused of Assaulting Citizen in Peshawar
A concerning video has surfaced on social media, purportedly showing five traffic police officers physically assaulting a citizen at Aman Chowk in Peshawar with punches and kicks.
In response to the video, the traffic police department has launched an investigation, forming a committee to examine the matter. Consequently, three officers have been suspended due to their alleged involvement in the incident.
The widely circulated CCTV footage seemingly captures police personnel engaged in a physical confrontation with a citizen.
The traffic police department has indicated that the incident took place on May 21, prompting the formation of the inquiry committee.
The traffic police have also stated that the circulating video has been edited and the officers acted to protect themselves during an altercation with the citizen. They claim the citizen initiated the confrontation by attacking an officer who had stopped him for driving a vehicle with tinted windows in a restricted area.
Officials have requested the complete, unedited version of the video to conduct a thorough investigation. They affirmed that further actions will be determined based on the inquiry report’s findings.
