Oliveira Calls Out Holloway After Submission Victory

Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira made a resounding statement by submitting Mateusz Gamrot with a rear-naked choke. The victory came at 2:48 of Round 2 during the UFC Fight Night main event held at Farmasi Arena on Saturday.

Oliveira, boasting a flawless 7-0 record in his hometown, further solidified his legacy with his 17th UFC submission victory and his 20th performance bonus.

Following his recovery from a previous knockout loss to Ilia Topuria, Oliveira promptly challenged reigning “BMF” champion Max Holloway to a highly anticipated showdown.

Gamrot, representing Poland, stepped in on short notice following Rafael Fiziev’s withdrawal due to injury. He now holds a 1-2 record in his most recent three UFC appearances.

In the co-main event, Deiveson Figueiredo of Brazil, a former UFC flyweight champion, secured a split decision victory over Montel Jackson. The judges scored the bout 29-28, 28-29, 29-28, marking a successful start to Figueiredo’s journey in the bantamweight division.

Figueiredo’s win brought an end to Jackson’s six-fight winning streak, which featured consecutive knockout victories over Da’Mon Blackshear and Rani Yahya.

Post-fight, the 37-year-old Figueiredo voiced his ambition to become a champion in two divisions before retiring from MMA.

Welterweight Joel Alvarez from Spain extended his winning streak to four with a dominant unanimous decision over Vicente Luque of Brazil. All three judges scored the fight 30-26 in favor of Alvarez.

Alvarez almost finished Luque before the final bell, improving his UFC record to 8-2 since 2019. Luque, on the other hand, has suffered successive defeats and hasn’t achieved consecutive wins in over four years.
