Oliveira: Topouria Landed the Hardest Blow
Former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira has stated his intention to return to the Octagon later this year, possibly in November or December, according to recent reports.
Oliveira, whose UFC career began in 2010 when he was 20 years old, holds a mixed martial arts record of 35 victories, 11 defeats, and one no contest. He was defeated by Ilia Topuria at UFC 317 on June 28, 2025.
In a recent interview, the Brazilian fighter acknowledged that Topuria is the most powerful striker he has ever encountered, noting that he had never previously been knocked out.
Oliveira commented, “I’ve never experienced a knockout before. I’ve been knocked down, suffered technical knockouts, but never a complete knockout. This time was different. I was disoriented and didn’t understand what had occurred; it was a novel experience.”
He further explained, “I repeatedly asked what happened and where I was. My wife, family, and Diego Lima were reassuring me, telling me to relax and that we would discuss it later. It was a completely new sensation. While upsetting, it’s part of the sport.”
“Without a doubt, he hit me the hardest. I’ve taken hits from incredibly tough opponents like Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier, and Michael Chandler, who have knocked me down and caused me pain, but his strike was exceptionally powerful.”
Oliveira also unveiled his plans for his return, stating his goal to compete again before the year concludes.
“I am aiming for a return in November or early December. My goal is to deliver an exciting performance. Although I don’t yet know who my opponent will be, that timeframe is what I’m targeting.”
