CDWP Approves Five Health Projects Under Uraan Pakistan Initiative
Transforming Healthcare Through Uraan Pakistan Projects
Pakistan’s Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has taken a bold step toward strengthening the country’s healthcare system by approving five major projects under the Uraan Pakistan initiative. Together, these projects represent an investment of more than Rs69 billion, signaling a strong commitment to expanding healthcare access and infrastructure nationwide.
The meeting, chaired by Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal, cleared three projects worth Rs12.524 billion at the CDWP level. Two larger projects, with a combined cost of Rs56.823 billion, have been referred to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for final approval.
Federal Minister for National Health Services, Syed Mustafa Kamal, also attended the session, underscoring the government’s focus on affordable healthcare and protecting families from catastrophic medical expenses. The initiative aims to shield vulnerable communities while ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible to all.
These projects are designed to expand hospitals, modernize medical facilities, and strengthen public health delivery systems. By reducing financial burdens on households, the Uraan Pakistan initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of people-centric development.
Experts highlight that the success of these projects will depend on effective coordination between federal and provincial authorities, sustainable financing, and investment in healthcare professionals. With proper execution, the initiative has the potential to reshape Pakistan’s healthcare landscape and provide long-term benefits for millions of citizens.
The approval marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s journey toward building a resilient healthcare system. Once ECNEC grants clearance, the implementation phase will begin, paving the way for improved medical services and stronger public health infrastructure across the country.
