Tarvet, who entered as a qualifier, was outplayed by Alcaraz, the two-time champion, during their match.
The five-time Grand Slam victor conceded only one game, defending against eight break points during the initial set, while successfully executing two breaks to gain an advantage.
The 21-year-old managed to break Alcaraz’s serve, taking a 2-0 lead in the second set, a move that spurred Alcaraz into greater action.
Alcaraz limited Tarvet to a maximum of four games and claimed the second set, though the match maintained moments of excitement.
Alcaraz moved ahead 3-2 in the third set, but Tarvet responded in the subsequent game, injecting further intensity into the proceedings.
Alcaraz, once again energized, secured the following four points, achieving the critical break that enabled him to close out the match.
