Matt Brown Voices Support for Jon Jones
Former UFC competitor Matt Brown has publicly backed Jon Jones, the former heavyweight champion, acknowledging his achievements despite controversies surrounding banned substances, according to international reports from Wednesday.
Jones is widely considered among the greatest UFC athletes ever. He secured titles in both the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions and holds numerous records, notably the most title fight victories in UFC history.
Throughout Jones’ career, he has faced controversies, including failed drug tests, hit-and-run incidents, and various legal challenges.
However, Brown, a former American Mixed Martial Artist (MMA), asserts that Jones was the best in UFC despite the controversies.
Brown stated, “He [Jones] was dominating during the TRT era. Like the Vitor, at 2000 test levels, he did it then. We can say he fought guys potentially on steroids.”
Brown added, “So the fact that he may have used them, it’s a personal opinion whether you consider it in terms of accomplishments. You can’t deny he was the best ever.”
He concluded, “It’s a difficult argument to say otherwise. But when discussing who used steroids, it becomes subjective.”
Previously, Jon Jones was a focal point for fans and the UFC due to a potential fight with Tom Aspinall, the former interim champion.
Jones and the UFC faced pressure from fans because Jones, with a 28-1 record, was seemingly hesitant to accept Aspinall’s unification bout challenge.
However, on June 21, following an event in Azerbaijan, UFC CEO Dana White announced Jones’ official retirement and declared Aspinall the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, marking the end of Jones’ era.
