Explosion Claims Lives in South Waziristan

A blast near the office of a peace committee in the Wana area of South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), has resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries.

Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan stated that the explosion occurred in close proximity to the aman committee’s office, leading to the deaths of seven people and injuries to sixteen others.

The injured individuals are being transported to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana, according to reports.

Law enforcement sources have confirmed that the explosion caused extensive damage to the peace committee’s office. An investigation into the incident has been initiated by the authorities.

As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the blast.

Statistics from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) indicate a significant increase in terrorist incidents across the nation in January 2025, with a 42% rise compared to the preceding month.

According to the data, there were at least 74 recorded militant attacks nationwide, resulting in 91 deaths, which included 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Additionally, 117 people were injured, including 53 members of the security forces, 54 civilians, and 10 militants.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the most affected province, followed by Balochistan. Militants conducted 27 attacks in KP’s settled areas, causing 19 fatalities, including 11 security personnel, six civilians, and two militants.

The tribal areas of KP (formerly Fata) experienced 19 attacks, resulting in 46 deaths, including 13 security personnel, eight civilians, and 25 militants.

Balochistan also saw an increase in militant activities, with at least 24 attacks resulting in 26 deaths, including 11 security personnel, six civilians, and nine militants.
