Motorcycle Stolen Outside Karachi Police Station

In a brazen instance of street crime, a resident’s motorcycle was pilfered directly outside a police station in Karachi while the owner was inside meeting with an officer.

Law enforcement sources indicated the event transpired in Korangi, at the Al-Falah police station. Shahid Iqbal, the victim, had arrived to confer with police staff. He parked his 125cc motorcycle, identified by license plate number KQT-6183, at the station entrance.

Upon his return, he discovered the motorcycle had vanished, triggering immediate concern within the police station.

Remarkably, just prior to the theft, the suspect had entered the station, greeted the officer on duty and other staff, and feigned interest in lodging a complaint.

Review of CCTV footage revealed the suspect executed the theft swiftly before making a quick escape.

The footage also captured the suspect entering the duty officer’s room prior to the incident, pretending to report a misplaced national identity card. This allowed him to survey the station’s layout. The police are actively pursuing the suspect.

This incident occurs against a backdrop of increasing street crime in Karachi. The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) reported on March 9 that 3,773 motorcycles and 195 cars were either seized or stolen in February alone.

Despite police assertions of an overall crime decrease of 21% in 2024, street crime persists as a major problem. Criminals continue to rob and injure citizens, often fatally, with little to no opposition.

In the preceding year, street criminals killed 106 individuals, including security personnel, professionals, and ordinary citizens, and left almost 300 others wounded.
