World Bank Official Praises Pakistan’s Economic Progress

Najy Benhassine, the departing country director for the World Bank, has applauded Pakistan for its significant economic recovery, describing it as a ‘revolutionary turnaround’.

During a final courtesy visit to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the World Bank representative shared these observations, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Thursday.

Benhassine stated that the country’s economic team had averted the danger of sovereign default and set it on the road to stability, noting that, “The revolutionary transformation, stability, and progress of Pakistan’s economy under your leadership is commendable.”

He further commented, “Pakistan’s current economic team has skillfully steered the economy from stability toward growth.”

PM Shehbaz acknowledged Benhassine’s contribution to reinforcing the bond between Pakistan and the World Bank.

The prime minister stated in the statement that, “For which we are grateful”.

He told Benhassine, “The cooperation and hard work you demonstrated with Pakistani officials on the Country Partnership Framework will always be remembered positively.”

PM Shehbaz conveyed his sincere well wishes and hoped for Najy Benhassine’s good health and future achievements.

Gailius Draugelis, the World Bank’s Operations Manager for Pakistan; Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar; Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Muhammad Aurangzeb; along with other high-ranking officials also attended the meeting.
