Stokes Readies for Return Against Zimbabwe with Lifestyle Changes

England’s Test captain, Ben Stokes, has embraced significant lifestyle modifications in his pursuit of peak fitness. This adjustment is geared toward facilitating his recovery from injury and ensuring he is prepared for the upcoming international cricket season.

The 33-year-old all-rounder underwent surgery in December 2024 to repair a torn left hamstring sustained during a Test series in New Zealand.

In a recent podcast appearance on Monday, Stokes detailed his updated regimen, emphasizing changes aimed at promoting sustained well-being.

Stokes’s Remarks on Recovery and Discipline

“Following my first major injury, I was taken aback and questioned how it occurred. That moment made me realize the necessity of altering my habits,” he stated.

Stokes underscored the significance of maintaining motivation throughout the rehabilitation process, attributing his renewed commitment to a heightened sense of professional dedication.

“The day I lose the desire to train will signal that the end is near. However, I currently have no intention of stopping,” he elaborated.

This marks the second instance of such an injury in a short time frame. A comparable setback occurred during The Hundred tournament in August, which prevented him from participating in subsequent limited-overs matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

“I recognize the need to exert greater effort away from the field, specifically in the gym, to maximize my chances of playing,” he concluded.

Stokes is slated to return to the cricket field for England’s single Test match against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge on May 22.
