Dunk Highlights Key Player as India-Pakistan Match is Cancelled

COVENTRY: Following the cancellation of the highly anticipated India Champions versus Pakistan Champions match in the ongoing World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Ben Dunk has offered his perspective.

The anticipated match, originally scheduled as the tournament’s fourth and set to take place on Sunday at Edgbaston, was unexpectedly canceled. This cancellation led to widespread disappointment among fans and elicited reactions from various former cricketers.

During a press conference, the 38-year-old Dunk conveyed his enthusiasm for cricket and expressed his desire for the sport to continue fostering unity among fans across different nations.

Dunk stated, “As someone who loves cricket, I appreciate all formats of the game. The more cricket, the better. Everyone is entitled to their preferences in what they choose to watch and support, and I respect every viewpoint. My hope is that sports will serve as a unifying force moving forward.”

Dunk also emphasized the overall strength of the Pakistan Champions team and identified a particular player who could pose a significant challenge when they compete against Australia in the current tournament.

He remarked, “All of them are strong. This is a legends tournament, and every player across each team is a champion in their own capacity.”

“I’ve been very fortunate to have spent time with Mohammad Hafeez during our time with Lahore Qalandars. We established a strong, respectful relationship – or at least, I hope it was mutual! He was the top scorer in the initial match and is definitely someone we are wary of,” Dunk added.

Notably, Pakistan Champions initiated their WCL 2025 campaign with a victory, narrowly defeating England Champions by five runs in their opening game.

While defending a total of 161, the Pakistani team restricted England to 155-3 in their allotted 20 overs. This was largely due to a disciplined final over by Sohail Khan, who conceded only 10 runs when 16 were needed for the win.

Looking forward, Pakistan Champions are scheduled to play South Africa Champions on July 25 at Grace Road, Leicester.
