Bayern Increases Offer for Diaz After Initial Rejection

Bayern Munich is reportedly nearing an agreement with Liverpool for Luis Diaz following an enhanced offer of £69 million, according to reports on Sunday.

Liverpool had turned down Bayern’s first proposal of £58.5 million. The German club has since improved its bid, with Diaz also keen on the prospect of playing in the Bundesliga.

Due to the ongoing situation, Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, chose not to include Diaz in the squad for Saturday’s 4-2 defeat against AC Milan.

Liverpool was initially hesitant to part with Diaz, but the player has reportedly decided to join the German side.

Since his arrival from Porto in January 2022, Diaz has become an important player at Anfield. He enjoyed his most productive season with Liverpool in the last campaign, netting 17 goals across all competitions and playing a key role in their title-winning season.

Diaz, who has two years remaining on his contract, initially expressed interest in joining Barcelona. The Spanish club also showed strong interest, viewing him as a valuable addition to their attack alongside Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.

However, Liverpool rejected Barcelona’s offer of approximately £65 million for Diaz and opted to explore other options.

This summer, Liverpool has spent around £250 million on players like Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez. The successful sale of Diaz would offset some of these expenses.

Liverpool is also targeting Newcastle United’s forward Alexander Isak, but his acquisition would require a substantial transfer fee.

Darwin Nunez is also contemplating a departure from Anfield, although Slot attributed his absence from the AC Milan match to an injury.
