Ebadot Hossain Gears Up for International Return After Extensive Rehab

DHAKA: Bangladeshi fast bowler Ebadot Hossain is on the verge of returning to international cricket after being sidelined for over two years due to injury.

His anticipated comeback follows a demanding period of recovery and rehabilitation from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained during a home series against Afghanistan in 2023.

The injury forced him out of competition for approximately 16 months and necessitated a total of five surgical procedures. As he prepares to compete against Sri Lanka in an upcoming two-match Test series, Ebadot is reflecting on his arduous journey back to professional play.

Ebadot’s rehabilitation involved several surgeries on his injured knee. He has described it as an extended and challenging ordeal that tested his physical and mental resolve.

Statements from Ebadot

“The recovery phase presented significant difficulties. I underwent surgery on five separate areas of my knee. Typically, fast bowlers encounter meniscus or ACL injuries, but I required five operations. It was mentally taxing to be away from cricket for such a long duration. Thankfully, I have made my way back,” Ebadot stated.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) provided essential support during Ebadot’s recovery, ensuring his rehabilitation was managed efficiently.

Ebadot voiced his appreciation for the board’s prompt support, which enabled him to undergo surgery in London and rehabilitation in India without any delays.

“I can still pursue my dream of playing cricket due to the BCB management. After my injury, the BCB management acted swiftly with my treatment. They arranged for my surgery in London promptly and later facilitated my rehab in India. They consistently made me feel like a part of the team. I am grateful for their ongoing support,” he added.

Despite the physical challenges, Ebadot was determined to return, confident that his hard work would lead to a successful comeback.

“I am not one to give up easily. I knew I was not the first athlete to recover from injuries. I was determined to see it through. While some may recover in 12 months, my recovery took 16 months. It’s tough being sidelined, but I was always focused on returning,” he explained.

“My doctor also emphasized that it would be a lengthy process, and my return would depend significantly on my rehabilitation efforts.”

Ebadot’s return to bowling began gradually, starting with the National Cricket League (NCL). As his fitness improved, he regained his rhythm, aided by a training regimen devised by Nathan Kelly in India.

“Upon resuming bowling in October-November, I experienced some discomfort in my knee. During the NCL, my knee felt unstable, and I feared re-injury. However, since the BPL, I have had no issues or anxieties. I am now able to bowl with full confidence,” he said, reflecting on his recovery and growing assurance in his physical state.

Ebadot also noted the competitive environment among Bangladesh’s fast bowlers in recent years.

“I have long observed a healthy rivalry among the fast bowlers since 2022. Our fast bowlers have greatly improved, with minimal differences between them, allowing any of them to start in any format. I hope this competitive spirit continues across the national team, A team, HP team, and other squads,” he commented.

He expressed optimism for sustained competition at all team levels.

“In reality, my career has been on hold since 2023. My aim is to resume from where I left off. I am eager to restart my career,” he concluded.
