Babar Believes His Wicket Turned the Tide in Karachi’s Favor

KARACHI: Following Peshawar Zalmi’s recent defeat against Karachi Kings in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10, captain Babar Azam shared his post-match analysis. The 2020 champions secured a victory at the National Bank Stadium on Monday, marking Zalmi’s third loss in the tournament.

Reflecting on the team’s narrow two-wicket defeat, Babar pointed to his own dismissal as the pivotal moment that shifted the game’s momentum.

The prominent batter, who had previously recorded three consecutive single-digit scores this season, appeared to be finding his form, scoring 46 runs from 40 balls, including seven boundaries. However, his innings was cut short when he was dismissed lbw by Khushdil Shah.

“My dismissal came at a crucial time, and the momentum swung after that,” Babar stated.

Babar’s dismissal in the 10th over led to a series of wickets falling at consistent intervals, which slowed down the scoring rate. As a result, Zalmi were restricted to a total of 147/8.

“I believe we fell short by approximately 10-15 runs. It poses a challenge for new batters to settle in quickly. Our strategy was for one batter to play a long innings, similar to how Warner performed for them, but their new batters struggled,” Babar explained.

Babar Azam further commented that the team’s bowling lineup is beginning to find its rhythm. He also pledged to address their shortcomings and strive for a significant comeback in their upcoming matches.

“Our bowling combination is now stabilizing. We are committed to addressing our errors and returning with greater strength,” Babar concluded.

Zalmi, the 2017 champions, are currently positioned fourth in the PSL 10 standings with two points from four games. Their next challenge is against two-time champions Lahore Qalandars on Thursday.
