Australia Announces Squad Changes for T20I Series Against West Indies
Australia has revised its 16-member team for the forthcoming five-match T20I series against the West Indies, which is scheduled to commence on July 21 in the Caribbean.
Jake Fraser-McGurk, an opening batsman, and Xavier Bartlett, a right-arm quick, have been brought into the squad, taking the places of Spencer Johnson and Josh Hazlewood.
Johnson is still in the process of recovering from a back injury. Hazlewood will be returning to Australia to prepare for the series against South Africa.
Fraser-McGurk, who was not offered a national contract recently, will be aiming to showcase his skills in the T20 format after a number of compelling displays in both domestic and franchise cricket.
Bartlett is moving up the ranks, boosted by his consistent bowling performances.
Australia has displayed great T20 form, having secured victories in 12 of their last 14 games. The matches in the West Indies will be an important warm-up before the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Mitchell Marsh, who is currently in excellent form, will be captaining the T20I team. Following the conclusion of the Test series against the West Indies, prominent players, including Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Travis Head, will return home.
The five-match T20I series between Australia and the West Indies is set to kick off on July 21. The first two matches are scheduled to be held in Kingston, Jamaica, while the remaining three will be hosted in Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis.
