Djokovic Reveals Secrets to Staying Competitive at 38

Serbian tennis icon Novak Djokovic, despite being 38, remains a formidable force on the court. He recently shared insights into the regimen that keeps him competitive with younger athletes.

Djokovic, boasting a record-setting 24 Grand Slam titles, has maintained his top-tier status, reaching the semi-finals in all four major tournaments this year. He has also presented significant challenges to rising tennis stars like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

In a recent interview, Djokovic detailed his daily practices that contribute to his sustained competitiveness and fitness, setting him apart from many younger players.

“My day starts with a prayer,” Djokovic stated.

“It’s an expression of gratitude for life and another day. Following this, hydration is key. I drink lukewarm water with lemon and salt, along with a specific hydration formula to replenish electrolytes and minerals.”

“I also enjoy fruits and smoothies, or juices, to boost my vitamin and multivitamin intake.”

When asked about his preferred smoothie, Djokovic mentioned his fondness for mixed berries and dates.

“I love dates, I could eat them all day! I also incorporate hemp seeds and other various seeds, superfoods like maca powder, and spirulina—though the taste isn’t the best!”

“I use a green powder blend that contains seaweeds, but the taste is masked by the other ingredients, making it more palatable.”

Novak Djokovic also discussed his caffeine consumption and hobbies beyond tennis to maintain his active lifestyle.

“I don’t drink coffee. Occasionally, I’ll have a green tea for its caffeine content,” he noted.

“On days without scheduled tennis practice, I still prioritize staying active outdoors for my overall well-being. I enjoy swimming in the sea, cycling, hiking, running, and jogging.”

“I also enjoy other sports, such as football, basketball, padel, and ping pong, to promote blood flow. After my active routine, I like to relax with activities like sauna sessions or ice baths.”

Even as he approaches the later stages of his career, the Serbian tennis legend is eager to secure another major title before retiring.
