Arteta Voices Support for PSG in Champions League Final
PARIS: Following Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the Champions League semi-final, manager Mikel Arteta has declared his support for the Ligue 1 champions in their upcoming final clash with Inter Milan. The match took place at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
PSG secured their place in the final after a 1-0 victory in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium, followed by a 2-1 triumph in the second leg at home. They are now set to face Inter Milan on June 1.
Inter Milan reached the final after a dramatic 7-6 extra-time win against Barcelona in their semi-final match on Tuesday.
Arteta, in the wake of his team’s loss, conveyed his admiration for PSG and expressed his desire to see them win the Champions League title.
Despite acknowledging it might not be the opportune moment to explicitly support PSG, Arteta reaffirmed his backing for the team.
“I hope so because of my past here,” Arteta stated to Canal Plus.
“I sincerely hope they finally achieve victory. This might not be the ideal time to declare support, but when they compete in the final, I will be rooting for them.”
Arteta also lauded the Arsenal players for their resilience and performance, especially considering the increasing number of injuries within the squad.
“I’m incredibly proud of the team; they deserve immense credit for their efforts and for managing numerous injuries,” Arteta commented.
“We arrived with significant challenges. Ideally, you want a fully fit and available squad with ample playing time. They had a week to prepare; we faced a different situation. This gives me considerable optimism for what lies ahead.”
