Arsenal’s New Signing: Gyokeres Needs Fine-Tuning, Says Arteta

Following Arsenal’s acquisition of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting for a reported €63 million plus €10 million in potential add-ons, manager Mikel Arteta has stated that the newly acquired striker requires further development.

Arsenal secured a 1-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford, with Riccardo Calafiori’s header determining the outcome of their Premier League season opener.

However, the team’s performance did not entirely meet expectations, particularly concerning Gyokeres, one of their major summer signings, who did not perform up to par.

Despite boasting an impressive record of 100 goals in two seasons with Sporting CP, Viktor Gyokeres failed to make a significant impact during his debut match.

Arteta commented post-match that the 27-year-old Swedish player requires further refinement to seamlessly integrate into the team’s tactical approach.

Arteta’s Comments on Gyokeres’ Debut:

“He exhibited numerous positive attributes. Particularly in our high press and the rhythm we seek, it was evident, especially in the first half, that we were affording the opposition excessive time. This is an area where we must concentrate our efforts with him,” Arteta explained.

“Concerning decisive actions, he had limited opportunities due to the positioning of the defensive line, which left 40 meters of space to navigate before delivering the final ball.”

“We struggled to effectively deliver the ball to capitalize on his strengths. Nonetheless, securing a victory against Man United in your first game with Arsenal constitutes a promising beginning.”

Arsenal’s acquisition of Gyokeres from Sporting was finalized for a sum exceeding £60 million.
