Arsenal Secures Victory Over Newcastle in Pre-Season Friendly
In a pre-season match held at Singapore National Stadium on Sunday, Arsenal triumphed over Newcastle with a score of 3-2. During the event, Arsenal’s latest acquisition, striker Viktor Gyokeres, was introduced to the fans in Singapore.
Gyokeres officially committed to Arsenal on Saturday, finalizing a £64 million deal with the Premier League team, transferring from Sporting CP. He greeted the crowd from the field before the match commenced.
Match Highlights
Anthony Elanga gave the Magpies an early advantage, scoring in the sixth minute following a precise pass from Sandro Tonali inside the penalty area, marking his debut goal for Newcastle.
Arsenal responded when Mikel Merino leveled the score to 1-1 in the 33rd minute, capitalizing on a flick from Kai Havertz. However, both Havertz and Ben White later missed opportunities to take the lead.
Shortly after, an own goal by Newcastle’s Alex Murphy, resulting from a low cross by Havertz, put Arsenal ahead with a 2-1 lead.
Newcastle made extensive changes during halftime, substituting nine players. Arsenal had a chance to extend their lead, but Nick Pope denied Bukayo Saka’s attempt.
The Magpies equalized with a goal from Jacob Murphy, one of the substitutes, who found the net.
Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, provided young Max Dowman, aged 15, with another opportunity. Dowman’s skillful play led to a penalty, which was successfully converted by captain Martin Odegaard, securing the win for Arsenal.
