Arsenal Set to Face PSG in Champions League Semi-Final

Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, affirmed on Tuesday that there are no strategies to modify their lineup or permit players to rest during their Premier League match against Crystal Palace this week. This decision comes as they gear up for the anticipated Champions League semi-final clash against Paris St Germain the following week.

Arsenal, who currently hold the second position in the league standings with 66 points, are nearly out of contention for the Premier League title. Leaders Liverpool require only one additional victory to secure the championship.

With Arsenal’s elimination from both the FA Cup and the League Cup semi-finals, the Champions League represents their most viable opportunity to secure a trophy this season. Despite this, Arteta has dismissed any suggestion of resting key players against Palace, who are currently in 12th place.

“We cannot consider such options. If players are fit, available, and eager to participate, they must play,” he stated to reporters in anticipation of Wednesday’s match at Emirates Stadium.

“They perform optimally when actively playing, maintaining consistency in their performances, and feeling physically and emotionally sound. Rhythm is crucial for their best performance.”

“Availability is key; without it, there is no debate. If a player’s condition isn’t suitable for performance, they won’t play. However, if they are ready, they will be on the field.”

Should Arsenal succumb to Palace, Liverpool will be crowned champions. Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool’s captain, mentioned that the entire squad might gather to watch the Arsenal match.

When asked if this provided Arsenal with extra motivation to win, Arteta responded, “Our motivation lies in securing our victory and striving to continue our current form. We cannot influence anything else.”

The Spaniard also provided updates on Bukayo Saka’s injury, which occurred due to a challenge. “We need to assess his reaction after the training session, but it doesn’t seem too severe. I believe he has a good chance of playing tomorrow,” Arteta commented.

He further added, “(Riccardo Calafiori) is unavailable, as is (Jorginho). Unfortunately, Jorginho will be sidelined for several weeks.”

Following the match against Palace, Arsenal will have a six-day break before hosting PSG in the first leg of their Champions League tie on April 29.

“We have more time, but our options are limited, particularly considering the players’ current condition and the number of minutes they can endure,” Arteta explained.

“Having a slight gap is beneficial due to our limited numbers.”
