Butt Advocates for Hockey League Inspired by PSL to Enhance National Talent
Islamabad: Ammad Butt, the captain of the Pakistan hockey team, conveyed his resolute commitment to achieving exceptional results in the Nations Cup. He also voiced his aspiration to secure gold medals in both the World Cup and the Olympics.
In an exclusive discussion, he provided details about the team’s training regimen and anticipated performance in the approaching Nations Cup.
Butt highlighted the thorough groundwork Pakistan has undertaken for the competition and conveyed considerable confidence in the squad’s capabilities.
“A comprehensive training program, divided into three stages, took place in both Islamabad and Wah Cantt. This allowed the team to concentrate on resolving any weaknesses identified during the recent Champions Trophy held in China,” he stated.
Butt emphasized, “The Nations Cup acts as a qualifier for the Hockey Pro League, rendering it vital for the resurgence of hockey within Pakistan.”
He underscored the significance of establishing a domestic hockey league akin to the Pakistan Super League, asserting that such a structure would aid in the discovery of emerging talent and afford local athletes crucial exposure.
He observed that Pakistani athletes continue to face disadvantages due to the scarcity of resources accessible to them, in contrast to their international counterparts.
“Triumphing in tournaments represents the singular path towards the advancement of Pakistan hockey,” he remarked. “Consequently, our unwavering concentration remains on attaining victory.”
Butt appealed to the government for increased financial support for the Pakistan Hockey Federation.
“Expanded international tours and matches hold paramount importance in augmenting team effectiveness. Heightened engagement in matches directly correlates with enhanced performance,” he articulated.
He also voiced his disappointment regarding the inclination of Pakistani sports enthusiasts to primarily concentrate on cricket, frequently sidelining other sports such as hockey.
“Pakistan hockey possesses an abundance of talent; sustained support constitutes our sole requirement,” he affirmed.
Pakistan will soon reclaim World Cup and Olympic gold medals in hockey. Furthermore, we are steadfast in our determination to seize the Nations Cup trophy,” he concluded.
