Akhtar Lauds Shadab’s Leadership and Skills

Ex-Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar has showered praise on Shadab Khan for his recent, well-rounded performances with Islamabad United in the tenth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

During a discussion on a local digital sports platform, Akhtar voiced his respect for Shadab’s bowling, noting that his batting is secondary in his view.

“My primary interest lies in his role as a bowler, and that’s how I’ve always seen him. His batting, to me, is of less concern,” Akhtar commented.

The former fast bowler did, however, recognize Shadab’s potential as a batter and commended him for his timely contributions with the bat when the team needed them most.

Akhtar highlighted the significance of a supportive atmosphere within the team, asserting that players flourish when they receive encouragement rather than face adversity.

“The dressing room and overall team dynamics shape players. Creating a challenging environment can negatively impact their performance, leading to dissatisfaction with the team or management,” he explained.

Shoaib Akhtar lauded Shadab Khan’s captaincy, calling him a ‘very astute player’ and an essential member of Islamabad United.

“He maintains team cohesion and proactively addresses potential conflicts,” he stated.

Akhtar also spoke in defense of Azam Khan, claiming that the wicketkeeper-batter has been subjected to unwarranted criticism.

“Azam Khan is a talented cricketer who has faced undue negativity,” he remarked.

The former Test cricketer further supported Azam’s powerful hitting abilities and then offered some intriguing advice to the 26-year-old.

“If I were him, I would create a documentary about my journey of losing 40 kg in 100 days and then showcase my power-hitting by achieving a century in just 33 balls,” Akhtar suggested.

He encouraged Azam, “If you are paying attention—and I believe you consistently do—simply take action and demonstrate your capabilities to the world.”
