Pakistan Customs Foils Major Drug Smuggling Attempt in Gadani

Pakistan Customs officials at Gadani successfully intercepted a container-mounted vehicle in a major anti-narcotics operation, recovering 188 kilograms of hashish valued at Rs552.44 million.

The operation was carried out at the Kurkhera Check Post, following specific intelligence shared by the Collector Customs Enforcement, Gadani. Officers diverted a suspicious vehicle transporting “cut tyres” for detailed inspection. During the search, they discovered two oversized tyres modified with sophisticated concealment methods. Inside, customs personnel found 169 packets of hashish hidden with precision.

Authorities confirmed that the individual accompanying the vehicle was taken into custody immediately, while the drugs, tyres, and vehicle were seized under the Customs Act, 1969. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) stated that investigations into the smuggling attempt are ongoing, with strict enforcement measures being applied.

The FBR reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against narcotics trafficking, emphasizing its commitment to safeguarding national security and curbing illicit trade. Officials highlighted that such operations are part of broader efforts to dismantle drug networks and prevent contraband from entering the country.

This seizure comes just a day after Pakistan Customs intercepted 80 bottles of liquor and 40 kilograms of pork meat smuggled through the Khunjerab Pass, in violation of import prohibitions. The estimated duty and taxes on those items amounted to Rs78.5 million, further underscoring Customs’ resolve to protect national revenue and enforce import laws.

The Gadani operation demonstrates Pakistan Customs’ growing capacity to detect and prevent sophisticated smuggling attempts, reinforcing the government’s stance on strict enforcement against drug dealers and organized crime networks.
