An Islamabad court has granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana fake receipt case. Imran Khan also received bail in five other cases, including those related to attempted murder and defamation of the army.
The FIR alleges that Imran and Bushra committed fraud by submitting a false receipt for gifts, such as watches and cufflinks, allegedly acquired from Toshakhana through forged signatures.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majuka stated that the prosecution did not present sufficient evidence against Imran Khan and his wife. The court approved their bail pleas upon the submission of surety bonds worth Rs 50,000 each.
Judge Majuka also granted bail to the PTI founder in five additional cases, with each requiring surety bonds of Rs 50,000.
In the case concerning defamation of the army, the court found no evidence on record to prove that the petitioner committed the alleged offense. The FIR details allegations made by Imran Khan against army officers, claiming they wished for his defeat and death, using derogatory and filthy language against top brass, which the complainant stated created unrest in society.
Regarding the attempted murder case linked to protests, the court noted the prosecution’s failure to prove that the demonstrations were organized under the PTI founder’s direction or to establish his presence at the protest sites.
Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated since August 2023, faces numerous charges, including corruption and terrorism, following his removal from power in April 2022.
