KARACHI: The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) have moved forward with plans to launch PHARMEX—a proposed Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Company aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s presence in global pharma markets.
The high-level meeting took place on Tuesday at the TDAP Headquarters, Karachi, and was chaired by Chief Executive TDAP, Faiz Ahmad Chadhar. Senior representatives from both organizations, including PPMA Chairman Tauqeer ul Haq and PPMA South Chairperson Dr. Mahwash Khan, actively participated.
The participants discussed Pakistan’s untapped potential in pharmaceutical exports and stressed the urgent need for a focused export promotion body. PHARMEX is expected to streamline efforts to access international markets, improve regulatory compliance, and support the pharmaceutical industry in achieving global competitiveness.
Chairman PPMA revealed that the proposal for PHARMEX, along with its draft Memorandum and Articles of Association, had already been submitted to the Ministry of Commerce and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) on May 2, 2025.
Following a review meeting chaired by the Minister for Commerce on June 4, 2025, it was officially decided that PHARMEX would be established under the umbrella of TDAP to ensure effective implementation and regulatory oversight.
This collaboration marks a strategic milestone in Pakistan’s export diversification strategy and is expected to significantly bolster the country’s pharmaceutical export potential in the coming years.
