Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal visited the under-construction Polyclinic extension in Sector G-11/3, Islamabad, and directed authorities to expedite the development of the new 400-bed facility. Originally planned as a 300-bed hospital, the scope has now grown, with the revised cost estimated at Rs 16 billion.
During the site briefing, the Minister instructed officials to accelerate the construction process by deploying additional workforce and ensuring work continues around the clock. He emphasized that the project must be completed on time and vowed to revisit the site within the next week to personally monitor progress.
The expansion is aimed at reducing the patient load on existing hospitals in Islamabad and nearby areas. Once completed, the facility will significantly increase the city’s capacity to provide quality public healthcare services. However, the limited allocation of just Rs 200 million in the recent budget raises concerns about timely funding and project continuity.
Polyclinic, one of the oldest public hospitals in Islamabad, currently operates with around 600 beds. The new expansion will help meet growing demand and provide better care to thousands of patients, particularly federal government employees and their families.
The Minister also visited the Federal Directorate of Immunisation, where he stressed the need for immediate hiring to fill vacant posts. He highlighted the importance of ensuring uninterrupted vaccination services through over 9,000 centers nationwide.
