Pakistan’s Gaming Industry: Building a Global Future
Tech entrepreneur and Game development expert Hasnain Tanveer shares his insights on the growing gaming industry in Pakistan and the steps needed for the country to become a notable player in the global market. With a surge of young talent and independent game studios, Pakistan is gradually establishing itself in the international gaming industry.
“Pakistan has great potential in game development,” says Hasnain. “We have a growing number of passionate designers and developers. While our startup ecosystem, especially in gaming, is still developing, there are already success stories showing that Pakistani talent can compete at an international level.”
He points to local studios gaining international recognition as proof of this potential. “Last year, 3rd World Studios, a 3D animation and game design company, received a significant grant from Epic Games, showing that our studios are starting to draw attention abroad. Similarly, an Islamabad-based company contributed to Megascans, a widely used tool in Epic Games, and was eventually acquired by an international firm.”
Despite these achievements, Hasnain notes that the industry still faces major challenges. “We do not yet have many AAA or consistent A-quality studios. Funding is limited, and infrastructure for game development is scarce. Existing software parks are a start, but they are not designed specifically to support gaming talent and studios.”
Looking ahead, Hasnain is optimistic about the next ten years. “With patience and steady effort, Pakistan can produce games that compete at the highest international level. Iconic franchises like GTA took years to gain global recognition, and our studios need time as well, but the potential is certainly there.”
He envisions a future where Pakistan not only strengthens its local gaming market but also gains a larger share of the Asian gaming industry. “With the right support dedicated gaming hubs, startup incubation, and a focus on quality over quantity I believe Pakistan can become a center for game development.”
As the gaming industry in Pakistan matures, entrepreneurs like Hasnain Tanveer remain confident that the country can turn its potential into a global presence. “We have the talent, creativity, and determination. What we need now is patience, steady effort, and an ecosystem that supports growth. The next ten years can be very successful.”
