Pakistan’s state-owned enterprises, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Mari Energies Ltd (MEL), have announced significant hydrocarbon discoveries in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, respectively.
OGDCL’s Revival in Sindh
OGDCL reported the successful revival of oil and gas production from the Chak # 2-2 Well, located in the Sinjhoro Block within Sindh’s Sanghar district. This joint venture includes OGDCL as the operator with a 62.5% working interest, Government Holdings (Pvt) Ltd (GHPL) holding 22.5%, and Orient Petroleum Inc. (OPI) with a 15% share. The extracted hydrocarbons are processed at the Sinjhoro Gas Processing Plant, with the gas being integrated into the Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd (SSGCL) network, thereby contributing to a stable national energy supply.
Mari Energies’ Discovery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Separately, MEL announced its third gas and condensate discovery at the Spinwam-1 exploratory well in the Hangu Formation, drilled in the Waziristan Block, located in North Waziristan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This follows previous discoveries in the same block, underscoring the region’s potential for hydrocarbon resources.
These developments reflect the ongoing efforts of Pakistan’s energy sector to explore and harness indigenous resources, aiming to reduce reliance on imports and enhance energy security.
