Karachi’s Large Taxpayers Office (LTO) has achieved an unprecedented milestone by collecting Rs 3.5 trillion in revenue during the fiscal year 2024-25. This represents a 29% increase compared to the previous year’s Rs 2.715 trillion, underlining the office’s strong contribution to Pakistan’s federal revenue.
Officials reported exceptional performance in June alone, with a record monthly collection of Rs 449.05 billion, a 48% surge from June last year. Additionally, LTO Karachi set a new single-day record by collecting Rs 184.7 billion in taxes.
Three major components drive the impressive annual revenue:
- Income Tax: Rs 1.818 trillion
- Sales Tax: Rs 1.301 trillion
- Federal Excise Duty: Rs 222.2 billion
These results highlight successful enforcement measures, including improved compliance strategies and streamlined tax processes. Authorities noted that proactive account recovery actions, including freezing accounts and pursuing arrears, significantly boosted collections.
This performance strengthens Pakistan’s fiscal position, supports government spending goals, and demonstrates the effectiveness of modernized tax administration practices. The consistent rise in revenue collection from Karachi, the country’s largest economic hub, signals increasing trust in the tax system and sustainable economic growth potential.
