CCP Approves Acquisition of Merit Packaging Assets by Kompass Pakistan
The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has given the green light for Kompass Pakistan (Private) Limited to acquire specific assets from Merit Packaging Limited.
According to a statement, the transaction involves transferring a segment of Merit Packaging Limited’s business, a publicly traded entity offering packaging and printing solutions, to Kompass Pakistan. Kompass Pakistan is a privately held firm that specializes in producing adaptable packaging materials for the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry.
Upon the transaction’s conclusion, Kompass Pakistan will take over all assets and liabilities associated with the transferred business segment.
CCP also approves Nippon Express stake acquisition in TCS Logistics.
During its assessment, the CCP defined the relevant market as “Flexible Packaging” within Pakistan.
The Commission concluded that the acquisition leads to only a slight increase in the acquirer’s market share and does not significantly reduce competition.
The merger does not establish or reinforce a dominant market position, nor does it create considerable obstacles to entry.
Consequently, the CCP has sanctioned the transaction in accordance with Section 31(1)(d)(i) of the Competition Act, 2010.
