Electric Vehicle Motorbike Sales Surge Amid Infrastructure Challenges

Despite infrastructural hurdles, electric vehicle (EV) motorbike sales are increasing across all societal levels nationwide.

Local market sources indicate that approximately 15,000 units were sold in July 2025 alone by roughly 45 two-wheeler manufacturers. This occurred alongside governmental initiatives at both the provincial and federal levels aimed at promoting EVs and decreasing ecological contamination.

Looking at annual figures, 2,000 EV units were sold in 2022. This number rose to 6,000 in 2023 and then significantly to 33,000 the following year. From January to July 2025, sales reached 57,800 units, with projections estimating 100,000 units by year’s end.

Reports suggest that manufacturers have elevated EV production to 7,000 units monthly since January, as more consumers opt for electric motorbikes over conventional fuel-powered alternatives.

Popular brands such as Evee, Metro, and Vlektra offer diverse models featuring enhanced attributes, including anti-theft systems, safety mechanisms, tubeless tires, and motor and battery warranties to attract prospective buyers.

EV prices range from Rs180,000 to Rs300,000 and from Rs350,000 to Rs600,000 based on specifications.

Their growing appeal, despite being pricier than traditional motorbikes, is reportedly causing concern among established gasoline motorbike market leaders.

Hamza Asad, Sales & Marketing Director at Evee Co, told Business Recorder that the government should extend the Auto Industry Development and Export Policy (AIDEP) 2021-2026 until 2030 to bolster the emerging EV industry in Pakistan. He also emphasized that the government should prioritize a user-friendly policy.

He noted that competition between EV and gasoline motorbikes could be beneficial, citing China’s annual consumption of 40 million EV bikes, which primarily utilize graphene (90%) and lithium (10%) batteries.

“The existing road infrastructure poses a considerable obstacle for both EV and gasoline motorbikes, while customers are typically conscious of price. Although EV bikes may be somewhat more expensive, they eliminate recurring maintenance expenses like monthly oil changes and tuning,” he stated.
