Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to restoring peace, security, and socio-economic development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s newly merged tribal districts. The confirmation came as the Planning Ministry released a historic package of Rs. 35.968 billion under the Accelerated Implementation Programme.
Of the total allocation, Rs. 7 billion is earmarked for building model police stations and check-posts, including transforming the Levies Forces into full-scale highway-ready enforcement units across former tribal areas. Major infrastructure and public service projects include:
- Rs. 13.5 billion for solarization of off-grid households, supporting up to 120,000 rural homes or a utility-scale microgrid to improve energy access.
- Rs. 2.5 billion allocated to strengthen the academic infrastructure of FATA University, expanding educational opportunities.
- Rs. 13.145 billion to clear outstanding liabilities of ongoing development schemes, ensuring timely completion and service delivery in the region.
This investment package marks a decisive turn in efforts to integrate the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) into mainstream governance, with a focus on strengthening institutions and community inclusion. Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal emphasized that these merged districts remain a top national priority, and collaboration across political lines is essential for sustainable development.
Officials say the funding will help create comprehensive policing plans, modern infrastructure, and reliable public services in districts including North & South Waziristan, Kurram, Orakzai, Mohmand, and Bajaur.
The announcement stands as proof of Pakistan’s commitment to uplifting previously marginalized regions and institutionalizing peace, bridging gaps in governance, and securing a future of equitable growth across the country.
