Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for a nationwide expansion of digital transaction systems, emphasizing their crucial role in promoting economic transparency, combating corruption, and enhancing tax compliance.

During a strategic economic review, the PM outlined several directives to accelerate digital adoption. He called for urgent installation of Point of Sale (POS) systems at both formal and informal retail outlets, noting that such measures will aid in plugging financial leakages and broadening the tax base.

He also emphasized the importance of integrating e-payment platforms within government service frameworks, covering utilities, public transport, and ticketing, to increase visibility into financial flows and reduce revenue leakage risks.

Highlighting data-driven governance, the PM directed authorities to deploy real-time transaction monitoring, enabling the extraction of analytics to track economic trends and identify anomalies requiring intervention.

These reforms are expected to enhance digital literacy, modernize Pakistan’s payment infrastructure, and bolster investor confidence by enforcing transparency and accountability. By embracing digital finance, the government aims to build a more inclusive, efficient, and corruption-resistant economy.
