Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif warmly welcomed the newly appointed U.S. Consul General, Stateson Sanders, to Lahore, calling the relationship between Pakistan and the United States a credible, stable, and time-tested model of international partnership. Speaking at their first official meeting, she congratulated him on assuming his post in the provincial capital and expressed confidence in the evolving positive momentum in bilateral ties.

During the discussion, both officials engaged in a broader dialogue encompassing trade, energy cooperation, agricultural development, technology investments, and educational exchanges that strengthen people-to-people links between the two countries. Maryam Nawaz specifically commended U.S. President Donald Trump’s initiatives aimed at facilitating dialogue between Pakistan and India, recognizing such gestures as contributions toward regional peace.

The chief minister highlighted that the resurgence in bilateral trade in 2024 was a welcome sign of growing economic interdependence and international confidence. She stylized the relationship as strategic and anchored in mutual priorities in economic, educational, and cultural spheres. Maryam Nawaz pointed to the vibrant Pakistani-American diaspora as a bridge enhancing social bonds, citing meetings with the U.S. Congressional Pakistan Caucus in April 2025 as evidence of sustained parliamentary diplomacy.

Affirming Punjab’s capacity for collaborative opportunity, she underscored the province’s annual production of over 20,000 IT graduates and its role as the agricultural backbone of Pakistan. She emphasized that sectors such as precision farming, water-efficient agriculture, and cold chain infrastructure represent lucrative areas for U.S. agricultural technology firms seeking entry into local markets.

Reinforcing the message of mutual benefit, Maryam Nawaz noted significant infrastructure developments in Punjab, including the introduction of a state-of-the-art electric train and the successful implementation of the ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ public housing initiative. These examples were presented as demonstrations of governance innovation compatible with technology-driven U.S. investments and collaborative ventures.
