Pakistan has rejected India’s remarks regarding its Shia community as cynical and diversionary, calling it an exercise in deflection masquerading as concern.

The Spokesperson of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tahir Andrabi, made the statement while responding to media queries seeking a response to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs’ comments on Pakistan’s Shia community.

Andrabi said that India’s comments cannot mask its own record of discrimination and violence against Muslims, Christians, and other marginalised communities.

The situation in India is particularly dire, with more than 55 Muslims reportedly lynched in 2025, and over 19 killed by violent mobs since January 2026.

Pakistan urges India to address these serious concerns within its own borders, ensure the protection of Muslim, Christians, and other communities in accordance with its constitutional and international obligations, and refrain from making unfounded and politically motivated statements about others.
