In a landmark move towards sustainable transportation, Pakistan’s Energy Minister Awais Leghari inaugurated the country’s first 120kW fast-charging station for electric vehicles (EVs) in Islamabad on March 25, 2025. Developed by GoGreen Avenue, this initiative underscores the government’s dedication to promoting clean energy and reducing carbon emissions.

During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Leghari emphasized the significance of this development in transforming Pakistan’s energy and transportation sectors. He announced a substantial reduction in electric charging unit prices from Rs71 to Rs39, aiming to make EV adoption more accessible and affordable for the public.

This initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to enhance EV infrastructure nationwide. Recent collaborations with Chinese firms aim to install 3,000 EV charging stations across Pakistan, with plans to establish 1,000 stations in Sindh, 1,500 in Punjab, and 750 across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Additionally, a $250 million investment is slated for building an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in the country.

The inauguration of the 120kW fast-charging station in Islamabad marks a significant step in Pakistan’s journey towards a greener future, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting green energy projects that offer long-term environmental and economic benefits.
