Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed optimism about reducing electricity costs in Pakistan, citing progress made by the Prime Minister’s Task Force. The Task Force has successfully achieved its target of adding 3,000 megawatts to the national grid. Discussions with major companies on revising capacity charges are also underway, signaling a critical step toward economic relief for the country.

Addressing Key Energy Challenges

During a federal cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister expressed surprise over capacity payments for state-owned power generation companies being made in dollars. He identified this as a significant challenge for the government, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions to address the financial strain caused by such agreements.

The cabinet also approved the integration of the Narcotics Division into the Interior Division and discussed plans to merge the Aviation Division with the Defense Division. Decisions on legislative cases from a December 17 committee meeting were deferred for further review.

Focus on National Security and Stability

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the improving situation in Kurram, where efforts to restore peace have been underway. Following a peace agreement, unauthorized fortifications were dismantled, paving the way for stability. He urged all stakeholders to work collectively to ensure lasting peace in the region.

Commending the armed forces, the Prime Minister lauded their sacrifices and efforts in combating internal and external threats, particularly their relentless fight against extremist elements threatening national security.

The Challenge of Education

Shehbaz Sharif also turned attention to the country’s education sector, where approximately 28 million children remain out of school, the majority of whom are girls. He called for collaborative efforts between federal and provincial governments to address these challenges and enhance education accessibility nationwide.

A Step Towards Progress

The achievements of the Prime Minister’s Task Force and the ongoing efforts to address critical challenges in energy, education, and national security reflect the government’s commitment to reform and development. While significant hurdles remain, the progress made so far provides hope for sustainable solutions to Pakistan’s pressing issues.
